This classic hairstyle is soft and feminine, sophisticated, and timelessly stylish – the perfect mid-length haircut for mature women. Soft layers will beautifully frame the face and downplay the appearance of wrinkles. Layers also add volume; the antidote to visually aged or thinning hair. The word “bangs” may sound a little too youthful – but done properly, they help cover age spots and wrinkles on the forehead.
In the end, this cut will compliment all women differently. But in the beginning, all women must start with healthy hair, soft layers, and highlights that appropriately compliment their base color. Highlights (and lowlights!) are a key component to looking younger. Never go with a solid color – it’s unflattering and harsh, especially against mature skin.
The next time you step through the doors of a hair salon, be prepared to step out looking younger, feeling younger, and absolutely loving your new style.
A great haircut can make a woman look and feel ten years younger – instantly! It can hide wrinkles, define the jawline, and enhance cheekbones. And all within minutes.
I can't speak for the rest of the world, but this past fall was an exciting and expansive period for me. In September, I left Fisher Experience in the capable hands of Victoria and Petrina and took off for Nashville. There I attended the International Hair Coloring Show, an all-encompassing annual coloring event sponsored by many of the major hair coloring manufacturers. In addition to mouthwatering food and nightlife with music to rock your soul (what's a meaningful professional gala without them?) I enjoyed platform shows, presentations, and lectures. I especially enjoyed hands-on demos from such celebrity hair coloring stars as Kim Vo from TV hit Sheer Genius and Angelo Seminara, known in the trade as the “Michelangelo of hair coloring.”
Then, back home in October, Fisher Experience played host to New Orleans stylist Glen Michael Milliet of Salon Glen Michael, who demoed a novel hair replacement system – the Evolve Volumizer System. He also demonstrated his new Seven Element Hair Cutting System based on the classic mathematical golden ratio and Leonardo DaVinci’s rule of three. His approach focuses on mathematically balancing the unique features of each client’s face by designing the perfect haircut to achieve that balance. Obviously, the results are stunning; you’ll be seeing the approach in action here at the salon in months to come. For the curious, I’ll give a more detailed account in future. Later in October we hosted L’Oreal Colorist Theresa Adams from DopDop, in Soho, NYC for a seminar that included our stylists and staff. Theresa demonstrated cutting-edge processes and techniques that stimulated fresh thinking about color for all of us.
For me, professional shows and seminars are revealing and revitalizing. Frankly, I can never know too much about the variety and complexity of human hair. I am happy to spend a lifetime learning new ideas and techniques so I can keep my clients looking and feeling more and more beautiful with every passing year. Fortunately for me, hairstyling is as much a passion as a profession.

Women are often inspired to change their hairstyle. They are inspired by celebrities and models, by fashion trends, and by the season.
But, while any stylist can duplicate a haircut from a picture clipped out of a magazine, whether or not that cut will be flattering on you is largely dependent on the shape of your face.
So what is the perfect shape for your face? I found this InStyle article, 'Get Hollywood Hair: Find the Perfect Cut for Your Face Shape' to be a great starting point.
The reason I say it's a great starting point is because there are other factors that need to be considered before going under the shears. Your personality, for one. And your lifestyle, for another. A skilled hair stylist will know how to translate a flattering cut into a flattering cut that also fits with your personality and lifestyle.
How much time and effort are you willing to spend on your hair each day? How are your skills with a blow dryer or a flatiron? What kind of products are you comfortable with? If your stylist isn't asking these questions, you need to answer them on your own.
If you're looking for a new hairstyle, yes, the shape of your face is important. But no more or less important than being matched to your personality and lifestyle.
Take advantage of our free consultation service. It's a great chance for you to explain the look you're going for and show us any pictures you may have.
